TikTok integration

PostPilot uses TikTok's official developer platform: Login Kit to connect an account and the Content Posting API to publish. This is how the integration works today.

How the integration works

  1. 1. Connect your account

You sign in on TikTok's own authorization page and approve two permissions: user.info.basic (basic profile, to show which account is connected) and video.publish (to publish the videos you send from PostPilot). PostPilot does not request access to your TikTok video list or analytics.
  2. 2. Prepare the post

When you choose TikTok in Create Post, PostPilot asks TikTok for the connected account's current options and shows the account's nickname. You choose who can view the video from the options TikTok allows (there is no preselected value); comments, Duet and Stitch stay off unless you turn them on, and options turned off in your TikTok settings cannot be enabled. A video longer than the account's maximum length cannot be confirmed, and by posting you agree to TikTok's Music Usage Confirmation.
  3. 3. Confirm and publish

Videos are sent with the Content Posting API (Direct Post). PostPilot then checks the publishing status with TikTok and shows the result of each post in the app.
  4. 4. Check the result

The post list in PostPilot shows the status of every TikTok post. Publishing can take a few minutes, and the video can take some time to appear on your TikTok profile.

Permissions PostPilot requests

Exactly these two permissions, approved by you on TikTok's own authorization page.

user.info.basic
Read the basic profile (display name) so PostPilot can show which TikTok account is connected.
video.publish
Read the account's current posting options (who can view, comments, Duet, Stitch, maximum video length) and publish the videos you confirm in PostPilot.

PostPilot does not request access to your TikTok video list, analytics, comments or messages, and it never publishes anything you have not confirmed.

Current limitation

Until the PostPilot app passes TikTok's audit, TikTok publishes posts made through the API with private ("only me") visibility and the account must be private. You can change a video's visibility from the TikTok app after it is published.

Your data

Access tokens are stored encrypted on the server. Disconnecting the account in PostPilot deletes the stored tokens, and you can also remove PostPilot's access from your TikTok settings.
